Hotshots for Beginners
HOTSHOTS is the national program for beginner players. The Bishopdale Tennis Club is a deliverer of this very successful program. This program uses modified equipment to get young players moving, balancing, tracking and rallying in a fun learning environment.
These lessons are structured lessons with a big focus 4 stages.
Blue stage (3-5 years)- Games, balance, moving, fun activities and rallying
Red ball (5-8years)-The use of a larger red ball with 25% compression, which means it bounces at a more appropriate height. The court size is smaller. Movement skills with running, jumping, sideways moving.
Orange ball (8-10 years)- Smaller organge ball that bounces at 50% of a normal ball. The courts and racquets are smaller. Imagine a court that is about 2 meters narrower and 3 meters shorter than your normal court. Great for our beginners, which means the ball bounces at a better height and the players don't have to cover the large area an adult has to. In this phase the players will learn to move and hit into a bigger area.
Green ball (9+ years)- Full court with a normal sized ball but at 75% compession. These players are hitting the ball in the court and into space with some level of consistency. The serve should be reliable to start the point.
At Bishopdale Tennis Club these sessions are run on Saturday mornings in late term 3 and finish up just before Christmas. They start again when school goes back after Christmas and go until the end of term 1.
No need to register just come and try it out. Andrea and Gareth will be there to answer any questions. There will be about 4 courts of beginner coaching going on. If you enjoy your lesson then you are welcome to join the Club and come back each Saturday during the season.
